STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES
LAUNCHING THRIVING, FOCUSED, AND IMPACTFUL DTS STUDENTS

DTS STUDENTS CAN FEEL LOST AFTER GRADUATION

But that doesn’t have to be the case!

We know that DTS students can go on to change the world, it hurts when they go home and flounder – or worse.
What if each student found where they are called to serve, transitioned well,
and created real kingdom impact in their next environment?
You can help make that happen.

Become a STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDE and change the trajectory of your student’s lives.

WHAT IS A STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDE?

WHAT IS A STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDE?

A Student Journey Guide is someone  trained with coaching skills to walk with students during and after DTS to help them identify their calling, navigate transition, and land in their next environment with focus and impact.

DOES MY YWAM BASE NEED STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES?
  •  Your base could benefit from having STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES if:
  • You see your DTS students going home and not thriving
  • Your students feel confused on how to implement what they learned at DTS into their next environment.
  • Your DTS students are struggling to commit to a job, community, or ministry when they go home.
  • You notice DTS students not going into missions or ministry like they said they wanted to.
  • Your students attend multiple secondary schools but lack an overall direction or purpose for the trainings.
  • Your DTS students are feeling dropped or cut loose by staff who were previously deeply invested in them.
  • You wish you could check up on past students but you don’t have the time.
WHAT DO STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES DO?

STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES meet monthly with DTS students during lecture phase and for 3 months post graduation.

ROLES OF A STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDE:

1. Facilitate a Monthly Coaching Conversations

    • Three times during Lecture Phase
    • Once during Debrief Week
    • Three times post graduation

2. Track Progress

After each conversation STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES log students goals, note progress, and track change.

3. Monitor Health

Check student’s mental and emotional health during and after DTS in order to refer them to additional support professionals when needed.

4. Foster Potential

Coaching conversations are different than regular one on one conversations. Through the unique nature of coaching conversations enable students to:

DO STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDES MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

DURING DTS

WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING:

“You somehow lead me without leading me, you make me lead myself.”
– Susanna K.

If I didn’t have coaching I would be very unsure of what direction I would be going in. I would get home, have this amazing experience of DTS, and yet I would be back at square one.”
– Camron A.

RESULTS AFTER DTS

A recent study* showed the following impact of a STUDENT JOURNEY GUIDE:

INCREASED CLARITY ON DIRECTION:
Without a DTS GUIDE only 33% of students at graduation had a clear plan of what they were going to do next.
With a DTS GUIDE 100% of student at graduation had a clear plan of what they were going to do next.

INCREASED HEALTH:
Without a DTS GUIDE only 20% of students were healthy emotionally, spiritually and functionally 2 months after graduating from their DTS

With a DTS GUIDE 75% of students were healthy emotionally, spiritually and functionally.

*Research conducted at the YWAM North Cascades Base, Lynden WA. 2022.
